The hinterland of Andulucia is a real hiker's paradise.

But also the Paseo Marítimo stretches along the coast for about 20 kilometers, giving you a nearby opportunity to walk, run or bike along the sea.

Lake of Istán

There is a way to get to the lake by foot if you park your car on a little parking at the Ermita de San Miquel on the Carretera Istán.

It will take you about an hour to get to the water, but the views are absolutely un-for-get-table.

Once you have arrived, a dive into the water is your trophee.

La Concha

At 1200 meters above sea level, the mountain of La Concha is one of Marbella's most recognized landmarks.

This hike starts at the natural park and resort hotel Juanar and continues 8 km to the top, or you can choose for a more steep access if you come from Istán.

You can see olive groves, pine trees, berry bushes and walnut trees along the trek as well as Spanish goats, eagles and owls.

Take the necessary precautions : wearing adequate clothing, taking enough water and a mobile phone with charged batteries.

El Paseo Marítimo

The paseo marítimo (board walk), has been constructed and extended in recent years to span much of the Marbella coastline.

At this moment it stretches for about 20 km between Puerto Banús and the old harbour of Marbella.

The board walk at Marbella Senses is constructed in gravel, when you advance direction Marbella centre it changes to stones.

You can choose to rent a bike to tour on the board walk, but don't ride too fast for the pedestrians.

The nearest-by shop for bike ( and surf ) rental is the "Samoa Surf Shop", Urb. Marbellamar, 8, 29602 Marbella.

El Caminito del Rey

This walkway was built in 1901 as a cross between the Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls, in particlaur for the workers of the hydrolectric power plants. The main purpose was to provide a means for transport of materials, and to help facilitate inspection and maintenance of the water channel.

In the early 80's, adventurers started to discover an frequent it as a hiking trail.

After 2 fatal accidents in 1999 and 2000, The government of Andalucia and Malaga agreed to invest in a full restoration of the path, the result is absolutely fabulous.

Reopened in March 2015, this walkway of 1 meter width and 8 kilometers length is the first in the Top 10 lists of Hiking trails in Andalucia.

Check the website for ticket info and keep yourself informed about the weather conditions : the caminito closes if there is too much wind or rain.

El Torcal

This nature reserve is one of the most important of the region, a few kilometers outside Antequery - Málaga.

Its fascinating rock formations project you back into the stone age, and transform this piece of nature into an almost magic place.

Rio Chillar, Nerja

Starting in Nerja, the Chillar river offers you a splendid family river walk.

Mounting up the river, you will have no other option than to refresh yourself in the water, en take a bath in various river pools and waterfalls.

This is a very popular walk for visitors and locals alike, and can get quite busy, especially at weekends.

But nevertheless you really should do the river walk one day, or maybe save it for a stay at Marbella Senses in low or mid season ?
